Motivation Threadsĭiscussion of motivation or writer’s block should be posted in our twice weekly motivation thread. We do not allow writing prompts, posts soliciting writing prompts, or threads inviting people to share their work outside of the crit thread. Those are all good questions as they are universal to fiction writing and sometimes even to other disciplines.īook recommendation threads should be limited to asking for nonfiction writing resources or channels, rather than comparative titles in a particular genre or featuring a particular scene. You can ask about structural techniques, dialogue vs narration, using pov effectively in general and so on. We cannot determine what POV or tense you should write in. It is your responsibility as the writer to come up with details of plot, character, character motivation, setting and magic/technological systems, mystery details, the beginning and ending to your story, and any other specific content direction.
If your question invites answers that are specific to your work alone, it is a better fit for our brainstorming thread. We ask that users frame their questions so they are useful to more than one person. We are not a place to talk extensively about the content of your work. Requests for critique and writing partners may only be posted in the critique thread or the stickied daily threads. Critique requests include soliciting feedback on ideas, queries, 'what should I write about X', etc.

These tags are put within the text of your manuscript, and they are replaced with actual numbers during the Compile process. You can even dream up your own name and create a ‘named auto numbering stream’. It’s not only chapters that Scrivener can number for you. Scrivener provides options so you can count using Arabic numbers (1, 2, 3, …) or Roman: If you tick the Title column AND set up the Title Prefix, you’ll get both: your title and Scrivener’s automatically generated one!ĭecide which you want and change the settings accordingly. If you’d rather number your chapters yourself, or not number them at all – just have the titles you’ve used for the titles of your chapters – that’s simply achieved, by ticking the correct box in the Section Layouts pane. What if you don’t wan’t Scrivener to automatically number your chapters? This can be combined with the ‘:chapter’ in the Title prefix pane – or used for many other auto numbering options. There are alternative options for the worded version of a chapter title number: w and W. It results in the words ‘One, ‘Two’, ‘Three’ etc being used to number your chapters.
